Long March 4C Carrier Rocket Successfully Launches RS 34-03 Satellite

Release time:
2022/11/28 09:18

At 9:38November 15, 2022, Long March 4C RS-48 carrier rocket fired off at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center and sent RS 34-03 satellite into the scheduled orbit. The launch mission was a complete success. The development for both the carrier rocket and the satellite were headed by Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology.

Long March 4C carrier rocket is a three-stage normal temperature liquid-fuel carrier rocket, with excellent performance and wide applications. For different types of satellites and different orbital requirements, the Long March 4 series carrier vehicle adopts flexible launch modes, which can launch a single satellite or multiple satellites, with a solar synchronous circular orbit delivery capacity of 3 tons (orbital height of 700 km).

RS 34-03 satellite is mainly used for fields such as land survey, urban planning, land ownership confirmation, road network design, crop yield estimation, disaster prevention and mitigation etc.

The rocket test team planned in advance, organized meticulously and promoted in an orderly manner

To meet the satellite envelope requirements, this rocket is equipped with Φ4m Von Karmen satellite fairing, and is configured with a relay user terminal system and an image measurement system. Compared with the traditional ground-based measurement and control mode, the relay measurement and control, as a beneficial supplement to the ground measurement and control station, extends the receiving period of rocket signals. At the same time, this rocket adopts high-altitude wind compensation technology, which reduces the additional load caused by high-altitude wind, and further improves the design flexibility and mission adaptability of the rocket.

In the face of tight launch nodes and strict epidemic control at the launch site, a special task plan was formulated for the model. At the same time, in order to meet the requirements of epidemic prevention and control, the test team set out from Shanghai with the special train for the product. The original half day flight became a "companion trip" with the rocket body for nearly 100 hours. During the journey of "crossing the Gobi Desert", the leader of the test team called on everyone to make full use of the time on the special train, sort out the process, think meticulously, and do a good job in preparing for the test task, so as to ensure that they can quickly start launch site work in the best state after entering the site.

During the period at the launch site, the Long March 4 model team continued to adhere to the fine style of "strict, careful, meticulous and practical", and stuck to the "daily issue-clearing" system for quality confirmation work, and implemented the sense of responsibility and quality awareness in every job and every post through in-depth communication, node mobilization, project demonstration, serious double thinking and other forms. At the same time, the test team also completed comprehensive technical disclosure and interface coordination with the launch site system to ensure clear status, process, operation and results.

This launch is the 94th launch of the Long March IV series carrier rocket, the 175th launch of the Long March series carrier rocket chiefly developed by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, and the 450th launch of the Long March series carrier rocket.

The satellite test team optimized the process and significantly improved the efficiency of the launch site

Faced with the difficulties of intensive launch tasks and shortage of personnel, the satellite development team rose to the challenge and carefully planned, meticulously organized and accurately implemented the launch site work. The final assembly work of the launch site was moved forward, and the onboard solidification status was confirmed before leaving the factory.

Based on the statistical data of the time used for each stage and each post of the general assembly of the launch site for the previous model, field operators were dynamically deployed, one-person-for-multiple-posts and multiple-persons-for-each-post were strengthened. Compared with similar satellites, the operation time of the general assembly of the launch site was shortened by 3 days; Parallel test mode was adopted to optimize the electrical test process, and the electrical test time was reduced by 45%. Under the strong coordination and close cooperation of the test team, the work of the launch site was completed efficiently.

During the launch test, the model team earnestly implemented the requirements for "three high" comprehensive development, applied the satellite product data package management system of Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, fully implemented quality confirmation of the launch site based on digitalization and paperless operation, and completed the comprehensive coverage for the data package of 21 quality control points.

By means of "physical inspection, curve upload, data comparison, record review, and post mutual inspection", 60 confirmation forms and 661 process record forms were formed, achieving the goal of "same operation, same collection, and same confirmation" for quality confirmation work, effectively improving work efficiency, ensuring the successful launch of the model with detailed data and accurate analysis, and fulfilling the requirements of "three high" comprehensive development with practical actions.
